In Genesis 1:1-2 the world goes from being full of nothingness to being something. It goes from void to fullness. In the first three verses discuss the expanses that were there, the next three verses, four though six, gave the bodies that were to govern over those expanses. In verse one there was light and darkness, in verse four the sun, moon, and stars were given to rule over the day and the night. in verse two there was sky and water. In verse five the fish and the birds were given to fill the sky and that water. Then, finally in the third verse the trees and the plans and the land were there, and in verse six the animals and the man were given. The man was given to rule over the land and over creation. Man is a ruler. In the Suzerain-Vassal treaties of the Old Testament there is always a lesser king and a greater king. The greater king in this situation is God, the lesser king is man. There are several steps within a a suzerain (the greater king) -vassal treaty (the lesser king). The first step is the preamble, which establishes who the greater king is. Second step is the historical prologue. This discusses why the great king is the great king in comparison to the lesser king. The third step lists the stipulations of the treaty, which is basically requirements. The fourth step is the documentary clause, which states tat there needs to be two copies. The fifth is witnesses. People must witness the treaty. The sixth is sanctions, basically, if one do not do this, the greater king will kill the lesser king. It is the consequences that will happen if one does not keep the stipulations of the treaty. The seventh and final step is the ratification ceremony. This is the sign given in order to show that a covenant was being made. It made the whole covenant official.

Stipulations: have lots of kids, rule over the earth
Documaentary Clause: man is God's own image(not only so that he can be established as the LK but also)....so therefore he is the second copy
Witnesses:let US make man in OUR image.....hence, witnesses
Sanctions:If you eat of the tree...you will DIE
Ratification Ceremony:

tree of life is reward for keeping the covenant and adam and eve get kicked out so they can't have it, because they didnt keep the covenant. If God let them eat from the tree of life, they would have had to live their life forever in their fallen life, so he kicks them out in order to redeem them. The kicking them out is an act of grace on God's part. FIrst covenant: keeop my word and you will get the tree of life. Gen 3:15-->God gives covenant: someone will come and give you freedom from satan, someone you will give birth to(like eventually, from your line) hence, Eve=mother of all life

When they have cain they think that the 'recieved' the child that God was talking about, the redepmtion from satan.

The child comes to keep the original gensis one covenant....to give the people the tree of life....he is there to keep the first covenant. The only way he will keep the promise of defeating satan is to do all the work that is involved in the original covenant. The new child will come and fulfill the covenant that adam could not and give the people the tree of life.

The only way you can get to the tree of life is by dying: if you try to get to the tree of life in the garden is through the cheribum who has a sword...you will die...if you try...so the only way to get to it is to die....DUN DUN DUN...the NT...the gospel...Jesus died in order to get us to the tree of life.

Romans 5:12-14

If adam created under first covenant, Jesus is born under that first covenant...adam had to do work to keep covenant, jesus had to also. By JESUS' works we are saved.
